Final week, Peter Rojas (previous Engadget Editor and current EIR at Betaworks) confirmed the rumors via Twitter, noting that Android VR would not be as powerful as the Vive from HTC or the Oculus Rift.

And back in February, the Wall Avenue Journal described that Google had designs to unveil a VR headset that does not call for a smartphone nor a laptop or computer to operate.

Even though that piece is continue to up for discussion — some say that Google I/O may include the introduction of two VR headsets — it appears to be that we can safely say Google will unveil some type of a VR headset in the coming months, likely at I/O.

That reported, it will in all probability be fairly a while prior to we can actually purchase these equipment, as the headset will likely operate on the forthcoming Android N running system.

This ought to shake up the current VR landscape, which is dominated by Oculus with the Rift, as very well as Oculus/Samsung with the Gear VR.
