It’s not just you, clicking on hyperlinks in iOS 9.three can crash your Iphone

[ad_1]

Seven rounds of betas weren’t enough — lots of iOS consumers are reporting on Apple’s aid community forums that a bug is influencing their products. When they click on hyperlinks in Safari, Chrome, Mail, Messages, Notes and other people, the app freezes and crashes. If you are a person of them, here’s a resolve that might clear up your problems.

It appears to be like this challenge is connected to Universal One-way links. With iOS 9, Apple launched Universal One-way links, a model new way to deal with hyperlinks with indigenous applications. App builders, such as YouTube, can register domain names to open website hyperlinks straight into an app, bypassing Safari.

Which is why when you click on a youtube.com/somethingsomething connection, iOS opens the YouTube app rather of loading a website website page in Safari. This is a nifty feature, other than when app builders abuse it.

Sergey Roshchin revealed a video demonstrating today’s bug. His iPad is doing the job fantastic. But then, he installs the Reserving.com app, and Safari gets unusable. When he clicks on a connection, it hangs, and then crashes.

Reserving.com associates its app with all types of domains — way too lots of domains to be precise. With 2.4MB value of domain-title-to-deep-connection entries, Safari and other applications crash when iOS checks hyperlinks versus its Universal Backlink database for the reason that this database is way too massive. A tipster also informed me that the Voyages-SNCF app also generates crashes on iOS 9.three. Update: Voyages-SNCF does not have universal hyperlinks, so the app should not trigger any challenge.

And still, the Reserving.com app was current on March 17, ahead of the launch of iOS 9.three. It’s safe and sound to suppose that one thing has changed with iOS 9.three resulting in app crashes when managing these hyperlinks.

The WebKit group launched a massive update with iOS 9.three and OS X ten.eleven.4. Safari 9.one includes lots of adjustments underneath the hood. Probably the Universal Backlink bug is connected to this WebKit update — perhaps not.

Either way, if you are encountering this bug, Apple will probably resolve it in its up coming bug resolve update. In the meantime, you need to delete the Reserving.com app and… wait. It won’t resolve your difficulties immediately as iOS checks Universal One-way links each and every now and then. But at the very least, your Iphone will function yet again tomorrow.

Update: Deleting Booking’s app might not even be enough.
